Yester
Castle
a.k.a. "Goblin Hall"
This was the first of many wee walks that Mark took me on .We first parked on a farm and we then walked across the farm and down a meadow of sheep only to come upon a golf course . Across the golf course to a very steep glen and all uphill from there . Every path had tremendous trees that had fallen across the path that we had to crawl over . Again , as I have stated before... this was another wee walk ! It was all worth it . The underneath hall was in perfect condition as if it were constructed only yesterday . The whole place had a distinct female energy about it .Yester Castle was built in 1297 by Hugo De Gifford . He was known as the Wizard of Yester . Underneath the castle is the famous subterranean Goblin Hall where Gifford is said to have practiced his magic . The hall is said to have been created by mysterious forces . The castle is in ruin but the hall underneath is completely intact . The castle rests on a very high triangular promontory . It lies beside where the Hopes water merges with a lesser burn . It was cut down to ground level by King Robert the Bruce's policy of making castles of no use to the English . After the War's of Independence it was rebuilt with a three sided mote . You can still see the remains of the mote , but only a few of the perimeter walls remain . Below are the pictures of the walls that are still standing .
